Day 2: July 20th

First full day in the books! After everyone heading to bed around 8pm last night, they were certainly energized and ready to go this morning.
Many of the girls were very surprised with the breakfast that was offered....baked beans?! Of course there was some delicious croissants, fresh fruit, yogurt and potatoes shaped liked a waffle (fooled a lot us ladies thinking they were actual waffles). After breakfast we headed to our first training session of the day. Practice was a little bit delayed due to a quick 5 minute heavy rain. Of course, didnt stop some girls from still trying to play, as one of the older girls threw on a poncho and ran out.
After the rain had calmed down we got right into stations. The 16 of the Seacoast girls were mixed into 4 groups with the other group of 15 girls from around the world. It is amazing to see some of these girls from Uruguay and Argentina and the skill level they are at, at such a young age! (could probably make me look like a cone) The stations included some 1v1 games, give and go to goal, how to receive from both sides of the field and more shooting on net.

After the first session of field hockey was done, the girls had a little bit of down time before lunch.
Lunch was another delicious meal, which included chicken casear salad, lasagna, surprisingly no potatoes this meal and 2 different kinds of pasta salad. Oh, and cant forget the lemon meringue pie! During the break, some of the girls made their way to schools store on campus. The store offers toiletries, food, candy and apparently slushies due to the amount of girls we saw walking around with blue tongues. With the weather still trying to figure out if it wanted to stay nice or continuing raining, we headed into session 2 of the day!

Session 2 consisted of fun 7 a side games. The girls were split into 2 teams, one older group and one younger group (again still mixed with the other group of international girls). It was fun to watch and see the girls adapting to eachothers play and really start coming together as a team! Once our scrimmaging was over, you could tell the girls were ready (and hungry) to get back to their rooms for a little break. Although, some of the older girls wanted to learn more from one of the coaches, Harriet, and her tutorial on a reverse chip shot.
After dinner, the girls decided to do some team bonding for night with a huge game of Charades. Both Seacoast and the international girls seemed to be having a great time as I only heard constant laughter between one an other. With us just finishing the first full day it is great to see all the girls are starting to come out of their shells and branch out. We were again, in bed early as we have an "off day" tomorrow to visit the Arundel Castle!
